Alexandre Nero

Alexandre Nero is a Brazilian actor, singer, musician, and composer born in Curitiba, Paraná, on 13 February 1970. Before becoming nationally familiar through television, he built his career in Curitiba’s theatre and music scenes. He studied at the city’s Faculdade de Artes do Paraná and worked with stage groups including Armazém Companhia de Teatro. His early screen credits included the 2006 film A Guerra dos Rocha, directed by Jorge Fernando, and Globo’s television drama A Favorita. In the latter, written by João Emanuel Carneiro and broadcast in 2008, Nero played Stênio, a lawyer whose story is entwined with plot rivalries.

His rise to leading-man status came through successive telenovelas by Aguinaldo Silva. In 2011’s Fina Estampa, he portrayed Baltazar, the violent husband of Celeste, played by Dira Paes; the role sharply departed from romantic hero conventions. He later led Império (2014–15) as José Alfredo de Medeiros, the powerful diamond businessman called the “Comendador.” The character’s secret marriage to Maria Marta, played by Lilia Cabral, and his ties to the Medeiros family drove the serial. Império won the International Emmy Award for Best Telenovela in 2015, bringing international recognition to the production rather than an individual acting prize. It elevated Nero.

Beyond Império, Nero played Romero Rômulo in A Regra do Jogo (2015–16), another João Emanuel Carneiro novela. Romero initially appears as a community leader and former councilman, but the narrative reveals his involvement with the criminal organization known as the Facção. In 2022–23, he was Marco Aurélio in Travessia, written by Glória Perez. The character was a businessman and father of Chiara, played by Jade Picon; his scenes included a long-running dispute around the identity and upbringing of his grandson. On cinema screens, Nero appeared in films such as Reza a Lenda (2016), a Brazilian western directed by Homero Olivetto.

Music has remained a parallel pursuit. Nero sang and composed material with the Curitiba group Maquinaíma before releasing his solo album Violeiro Intergaláctico in 2011. The record combined his songwriting with a theatrical performance persona, a connection he has continued to make in concerts and television appearances. He also released the album Gigante in 2015. His professional profile therefore spans work as a stage performer, recording artist, and television actor, but his most widely recognized role remains José Alfredo in Império. That portrayal made Nero the face of a Globo production centered on power, inheritance, family secrets, and diamond trade.
