Toy Story 5

Toy Story 5 is an upcoming Pixar Animation Studios feature and the fifth main film in the Toy Story series. Disney announced the project in February 2023, alongside Frozen 3 and Zootopia 2. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on June 19, 2026. Andrew Stanton is directing; he previously directed Finding Nemo, WALL-E, and Finding Dory, and has been a central creative figure in Toy Story since the first film, for which he received story credit. McKenna Harris is serving as co-director, and Lindsey Collins is producing. At Disney’s D23 presentation in August 2024, Pixar disclosed the film’s basic premise: “Toy meets Tech.” The announced concept places Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and their fellow toys in conflict with the growing attraction of electronic devices for children. Pixar showed an image of a child receiving a large number of Buzz Lightyear action figures, indicating that Buzz’s role will be part of the story’s technology-focused challenge. The studio did not publicly provide a full plot synopsis, a complete character list, or detailed information about the child, the setting, or the eventual antagonist. Tim Allen has said that he will return as Buzz Lightyear. Disney and Pixar have also presented the project as bringing back the familiar Toy Story ensemble, with Woody and Jessie specifically included in the D23 description. The movie follows Toy Story 4, released in 2019, which ended with Woody leaving Bonnie’s room to join Bo Peep and help lost toys find children. That ending separated Woody from Buzz, Jessie, Rex, Hamm, Slinky Dog, and the other toys still belonging to Bonnie, making the fifth film’s reunion or new status quo a significant unresolved point. Toy Story 5 arrives after a long gap in the main series. Toy Story opened in 1995 as Pixar’s first feature and is widely recognized as the first fully computer-animated feature film released theatrically. Its sequels followed in 1999, 2010, and 2019. The franchise also produced Lightyear in 2022, a separate film framed as the in-universe movie that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy; it did not replace Allen’s Toy Story character with its own version of Buzz. Because Pixar has released only limited official story material, claims about specific new characters, a confirmed villain, exact story turns, or how Woody returns should be treated cautiously. The verified picture is narrower: Stanton is directing a June 2026 Pixar sequel centered directly on the Toy Story toys confronting technology.
