Every guess is compared with today's movie attribute by attribute. Green means exact, amber means close, and the arrow says whether the answer is higher or lower than your guess.
How does the movie of the day work?
Everyone in the world plays the same movie today, and it changes at midnight UTC. You have eight guesses, and every guess is compared with today's movie attribute by attribute: year, runtime, genres, country, language and director.
Nothing about the answer is in the page you are reading. Each guess is checked on the server, so the only way to find the movie is to guess it.
What do the colours and the symbols mean?
Green with an equals sign means that attribute is exactly right. Amber means close: the year is within five years, the runtime is within fifteen minutes, or the genres overlap without being the same set. Grey means far off.
On year and runtime an arrow is added, and it points from your guess to the answer: an arrow up means today's movie is later or longer than the one you guessed.
Why do I have to pick a title from the list?
The list is the whole pool, and showing it gives nothing away. Picking from it instead of typing free text is what keeps the check cheap enough to be the same answer for every player, which is why a popular guess costs the site nothing.
Does sharing my result spoil the movie?
No. The shared square carries only the colours of each guess, never the titles you tried and never the arrows, because an arrow tells the reader whether the answer is above or below your guess. Whoever opens the link plays the same day you did.
Do I need an account, and where is my progress kept?
No account. Today's guesses are stored in your own browser, so reloading keeps them and opening another browser starts over. That is also what lets the page be identical for everyone.
I missed yesterday. Can I still play it?
Not yet. Past days stay in the calendar and the answer never repeats, so an archive is possible later, but today is the only day playable right now.
