About Varolz, the Scar-Striped

Varolz, the Scar-Striped, Legendary creature — troll warrior, designed by Adam Paquette first released in May, 2013 in the set Dragon's Maze.

Varolz, the Scar-Striped would benefit a Golgari graveyard-based deck focused on utilizing creature cards in the graveyard for additional value through its scavenge ability. This card synergizes well with strategies that involve sacrificing creatures for various benefits, making it a valuable inclusion in a deck that aims to generate incremental advantage through graveyard interactions. While there may be other cards with similar effects, Varolz's versatility in both regeneration and scavenge abilities makes it a strong contender for play in the right deck.

Rules

04/15/13

Abilities that reduce the cost to cast a creature spell or alternative costs you can pay rather than a card’s mana cost don’t apply to activating a card’s scavenge ability.

04/15/13

Exiling the creature card with scavenge is part of the cost of activating the scavenge ability. Once the ability is activated and the cost is paid, it’s too late to stop the ability from being activated by trying to remove the creature card from the graveyard.

04/15/13

If the creature card you scavenge has in its mana cost, X is 0.
