A control deck that prioritizes mana fixing and doesn't mind the life loss would benefit from using Starting Town as it provides versatile mana options early in the game. However, there are better land options such as mana-fixing dual lands like Shock Lands or Fetch Lands that enter untapped and offer more flexibility. Starting Town may not see much play in competitive decks compared to other efficient land options.
