About Setessan Tactics

Setessan Tactics, Instant, designed by Mark Winters first released in May, 2020 in the set Journey into Nyx.

Setessan Tactics would benefit a deck focused on aggressive creature strategies, particularly in a green-based deck with multiple creatures to target. While it can provide a temporary boost and removal potential, there are better options like Colossal Might or Vines of Vastwood that offer similar effects more efficiently. Setessan Tactics could see situational play in decks looking for versatile combat tricks, but may not be a staple due to its mana cost scaling with additional targets.

Rules

04/26/14

Each of the two creatures that fight deals damage equal to its power to the other. If either one of the creatures isn’t on the battlefield when the ability that instructs them to fight resolves, no damage is dealt.

04/26/14

If such a spell is copied, and the effect that copies the spell allows a player to choose new targets for the copy, the number of targets can’t be changed. The player may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If, for one of the targets, the player can’t choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).

04/26/14

The mana cost and converted mana cost of strive spells don’t change no matter how many targets they have. Strive abilities affect only what you pay.
