About Pursued Whale

Pursued Whale, Creature — whale, designed by Jonathan Kuo first released in Jun, 2020 in the set Core Set 2021 and was printed exactly in 8 different ways.

A control or tempo deck that aims to slow down opponents and disrupt their game plan would benefit from using Pursued Whale in Magic: the Gathering. While Pursued Whale's ability to tax opponents' spells targeting it can be useful, there are potentially better options like Frost Titan or Sphinx of Jwar Isle that offer more impactful effects for a similar mana cost. Pursued Whale could see play in specific metagames where its abilities are particularly effective, but in general, it may not be a top choice for competitive decks.

Rules

06/23/20

If a creature affected by the Pirate token can’t attack for any reason (such as being tapped or having come under that player’s control that turn), then it doesn’t attack. If there’s a cost associated with having it attack, the player isn’t forced to pay that cost, so it doesn’t have to attack in that case either.
