About Mindclaw Shaman

Mindclaw Shaman, Creature — lizard shaman, designed by Slawomir Maniak first released in Jul, 2012 in the set Magic 2013.

A deck that focuses on disrupting the opponent's strategy and taking advantage of their spells would benefit from including Mindclaw Shaman, such as a control or tempo deck. While Mindclaw Shaman can provide a powerful effect by allowing you to cast an opponent's spell for free, there are more efficient and reliable options available in formats like Modern or Legacy, such as Thoughtseize or Inquisition of Kozilek. However, in a casual or limited environment, Mindclaw Shaman could see play as a fun and unpredictable addition to a red-based deck.

Rules

07/01/12

Any player can respond to Mindclaw Shaman’s triggered ability. However, once that ability starts resolving and the target opponent reveals their hand, players can’t respond until after the ability finishes resolving. For example, the opponent can’t cast the instant or sorcery card you choose to cast in order to stop you from casting it.

07/01/12

If you cast a card “without paying its mana cost,” you can’t pay any alternative costs. You can pay additional costs such as kicker costs. If the card has mandatory additional costs, you must pay those.

07/01/12

The card goes to its owner’s graveyard after it resolves (or otherwise leaves the stack), not yours.
