This card could be beneficial in a deck that focuses on sacrificing creatures for value, such as a black sacrifice deck or a reanimator strategy. However, due to its high mana cost and the potential drawback of dealing damage to you if you can't sacrifice a creature, there may be more efficient options available such as Griselbrand or Razaketh, the Foulblooded for a similar effect with better payoffs, making Liege of the Pit less likely to see play in competitive Magic: the Gathering decks.
