About Explore

Explore, Sorcery, designed by Johann Bodin first released in Jun, 2002 in the set Magic Online Promos and was printed exactly in 28 different ways. It see play in 1 formats: Commander.

A deck that focuses on ramping up mana quickly, such as a green ramp deck, would benefit from using Explore as it allows for playing an additional land and drawing a card in the same turn, providing both card advantage and mana acceleration. While Explore is a solid card for such decks, there are arguably better options like Growth Spiral, which also allows for playing an additional land but at instant speed, providing more flexibility. However, Explore can still be a valuable inclusion in decks looking for consistent card draw and mana ramp.

Rules

03/14/17

Explore’s effect allows you to play an additional land during your main phase. Doing so follows the normal timing rules for playing lands. In particular, you don’t get to play a land as Explore resolves; Explore fully resolves first and you draw a card, perhaps a land you’ll play later.

03/14/17

If you somehow manage to cast Explore when it’s not your turn, you’ll draw a card when it resolves, but you won’t be able to play a land that turn.
