This Black Mage's Rod card would be a strong addition to a deck focused on casting a high number of noncreature spells, like a control or spell-slinging deck. Its ability to create a 1/1 creature token upon entry and grant additional damage to opponents whenever a noncreature spell is cast can quickly escalate pressure. Alternatively, cards like Cranial Plating or Batterskull could be better options for Equipment in certain decks, but Black Mage's Rod could see play in decks looking to maximize the damage output and generate value from noncreature spells.
