Donald Glover will star in a live-action series based on PUBG: Battlegrounds in development at Netflix. He will also write, direct and executive produce the project, according to Krafton, the company behind the game. No release date has been announced. The project reunites Donald with his brother, Stephen Glover, who will help develop the series and serve as a writer and executive producer alongside him. The two previously worked together on Atlanta, created by Donald with Stephen on the writing staff, as well as Swarm and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.Originally released in 2017, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds drops dozens of players onto a map where they must find weapons, equipment and other resources to survive. As the playable area shrinks, the fighting intensifies until only one player or team remains.Turning that premise into a series will require a story the game does not provide. PUBG has no traditional narrative or central characters, so the adaptation will have to build its plot from the game’s world. Netflix and the creative team have not revealed what that story will be or how the matches will feature in the series. The executive producers also include Michael Schaefer of Neon TV, Fam Udeorji of Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee of LV3H, Krafton’s entertainment division. The rest of the cast has not been announced. With information from PapelPop.
