The next G.I. Joe film is set to hit theaters on October 20, 2028. Paramount announced the release date for the project, which will star Bradley Cooper as Duke and be directed by Danny McBride. McBride is also writing the screenplay with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri.

The film is described as a new take on the franchise. G.I. Joe has been a toy brand for decades and found success on television with its 1980s cartoons, but its films have yet to make the same impact. The most recent entry was Snake Eyes, released in 2021.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, a longtime producer of the G.I. Joe films, is returning to the franchise. He is producing the new project with Mark Vahradian and Hasbro Entertainment’s Zev Foreman.

McBride’s hiring is part of a broader strategy for Hasbro Entertainment’s adaptations. The company has other film and television projects in development and is looking for people who can bring fresh perspectives to its brands without rushing the productions. They include Craig Mazin, who is involved in a Baldur’s Gate 3 series, and Matt Johnson, who is working on a Magic: The Gathering film.

Paramount has also moved another release: the new Paranormal Activity film has shifted from May 21, 2027, to October 22 of the same year, close to Halloween. Ian Tuason is directing, with Chase Yi, Sonia Mena and Maya Da Costa starring. The G.I. Joe announcement sets a 2028 release date, but the film still has no official title.
