4A Games and Deep Silver revealed new information about Metro 2039 during the opening of Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany. The highlights include The Stranger, the series' first protagonist with a voice of his own, and a collector's edition featuring a life-size Spartan helmet.Metro 2039 will launch in February 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The announcement also unveiled the Renegade gameplay trailer, which offers a glimpse at a darker, more personal story.The story takes place four years after the events of Metro Exodus, spanning the tunnels of Moscow's metro and the radiation-contaminated surface. Players will take on the role of The Stranger, a member of the Spartan Rangers who is plagued by nightmares and must return to the metro despite having sworn never to go back.The character is determined to kill Hunter, a former legendary member of the Spartan Rangers who became the Fuhrer of Novoreich, a new regime that has unified the metro's factions. Driven by rage and hatred, The Stranger says in the trailer that he will not stop until he and the Fuhrer burn together.Renegade shows the protagonist infiltrating Moscow under Novoreich occupation. The video features stealth kills, explosive placement and environmental interactions, along with a two-minute sequence in the metro tunnels that alternates between combat and narrative moments.The collector's edition will include a replica of the weathered Spartan helmet worn by The Stranger. Based on the game's 3D model, the wearable item recreates details such as scratches, damage and customizations. 4A Games also highlighted its articulated visor and integrated gas-mask element.Pre-orders are expected to open in the second half of 2026, but the price has not yet been announced. On Xbox Series X|S, Metro 2039 will support 4K Ultra HD resolution, 60 frames per second and ray tracing. The game has already surpassed 1 million additions to players' wishlists across platforms, two weeks after its official announcement.
