Barrin's Codex, Artifact, designed by DiTerlizzi first released in Oct, 1998 in the set Urza's Saga.
This card would benefit a control or card advantage-focused deck in Magic: the Gathering, as it provides a way to draw multiple cards at once. While Barrin's Codex can be a useful tool for generating card advantage, there are more efficient options available such as Rhystic Study or Mystic Remora which offer card draw with fewer setup requirements. However, Barrin's Codex could still see play in casual or thematic decks looking to utilize its unique mechanic of accumulating page counters for a big card draw payoff.

Adding a counter is optional. If you forget to add one during your upkeep, you cannot back up and add one later.
