Introduction
So, one of our favorite series just dropped it's new (and probably last) season. But, what exactly happened in the previous one? It feels like ages since season three was released—two years, to be exact.
To refresh our memories of season three, we first need to understand what led us there. In the second season, our heroes found themselves lost and scattered across time, which isn’t exactly new for the UB (short for Umbrella Academy). Their actions ended up creating a new reality, where instead of the UB, we get the Sparrow Academy, an almost identical group but with different super humans. And that’s where we pick up in season three.

So, What Happened?
For a while, both groups struggled to find their place in the world, some more lost and others more content with their situation. But then a greater threat began to emerge, and they realized that if nothing was done, the world, the universe, and the timeline would be at risk. That was a brief summary. Today, we’re taking a different approach to recapping the previous season: instead of going over all the events, let’s revisit the story from the perspective of the characters. After all, this is likely our farewell to them.
What Was Each Character Up To?
Each of the protagonists had their own journey this season, so let’s help you remember a bit about what happened with each one.
Five
Five, the tireless (but exhausted) time traveler, continued his mission to fix the chaos caused by the Umbrella Academy. In season three, he was determined to stop the timeline from collapsing after discovering the threat of the Kugelblitz, a temporal anomaly that devours everything around it.
A moment of growth for him (figuratively, of course) is when Five encounters an older version of himself on the brink of death, learning that the Kugelblitz is directly linked to the Umbrella Academy’s past actions. At this point, Five realizes once again the wrong path they’re on, taking responsibility as an adult and showing his resilience in staying committed.
Viktor
Viktor underwent an intense journey of self-discovery, facing his traumas and finally embracing his true identity. In season three, Viktor helps Harlan, now an adult, deal with the powers he accidentally transferred to him when he was a child.
The revelation of his gender transition to the family is a key moment, handled with understanding and support, but it also adds layers of complexity to the team’s relationships.
Luther
Luther, the big-hearted giant, tries to adjust to the reality imposed by the Sparrow Academy. A standout moment is when he falls in love with Sloane, one of the Sparrows, despite the tensions between the two academies. His internal struggle to balance this new romance with his loyalty to the Umbrella Academy reflects the emotional dilemma he faces throughout the season.
Diego
Diego, the rebel of the family, finds himself in an unexpected situation when Lila reappears, revealing that he’s the “father” of a boy named Stan. Diego, who has always been a loner, tries to adapt to his new role as a dad, leading to several comedic and emotional scenes.
A significant moment is when Diego teaches Stan how to defend himself and the importance of family bonds, even within such a dysfunctional dynamic as theirs.

Klaus
Klaus continues to be the comic relief of the series and a fan favorite, but he also goes through some deep development. In season three, he discovers he can revive after death, something he experiences repeatedly in both comedic and tragic situations. This learning curve culminates in a scene where Klaus, after many attempts, finally controls his ability, changing his perspective on mortality.
Allison
Allison is, undoubtedly, the character who suffers the most this season, dealing with the loss of her daughter due to the timeline changes. Her grief drives her to make desperate decisions, such as trying to force Viktor to use his powers to bring her daughter back. This anguish culminates in an emotional confrontation with Viktor, where Allison questions how far she’s willing to go to recover what she’s lost.
Ben (Sparrow Version)
This Ben is very different from the one we knew. Now, he’s cold and calculating, taking on the role of leader of the Sparrow Academy. In season three, Ben often challenges the Umbrella Academy, trying to prove his superiority as a leader. An example of this is his confrontation with Luther, which creates significant tension between the two groups, showing a darker side of Ben that we hadn’t seen before.
So, What’s Next?
The new season promises to answer the questions left hanging, but we also hope it introduces new conflicts. Of course, we’d love to see the characters continue to develop, something that often gets overlooked in some series. Additionally, we’re curious to see how the members of the UB handle their new reality. Yes, they “saved the world,” but was the price worth it?
The strength of this series has always been the interactions between the siblings, the dysfunctional family vibe, and the love that shines through amidst the constant bickering. It would be great to have a final season focused on this aspect, so we can say a proper goodbye to each character.
But now, from a less serious perspective, is everything really fixed, or did they just create even more chaos? Either way, one thing is certain: the last season of Umbrella Academy will be an emotional rollercoaster. So, brace yourself, and let us know in the comments what you expect from the new season!
