Created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, with its first episode airing on September 24, 2007, Big Bang: The Theory had a 12-year journey with a total of 279 episodes produced by Warner and broadcasted by CBS.

1- Rejected Episode

The series had an episode rejected by CBS. In it, the network liked the idea but didn't like the execution. It featured only Leonard and Sheldon as the main characters, with another character in place of Penny, who was more daring in her actions. Additionally, Sheldon himself had a different personality.

2- Names Based on Scientists and Philosophers

Many characters in the series have names that pay homage to personalities in science, philosophy, and cinema. Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter are tributes to actor Sheldon Leonard, and their last names reference physicists Leon Neil Cooper and Robert Hofstadter, respectively.

3- Formulas

All the formulas presented on the boards during the series' episodes are real and reviewed by physicist David Saltzberg, who is a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of California, Los Angeles, and became well-known for reviewing the sitcom's scripts.

4- Special Guest Appearances

Due to its numerous references to the Geek/Nerd universe, the series featured many special appearances that were a treat for fans of other works in this genre, such as Mark Hamill (the actor who played Luke Skywalker in Star Wars), Stan Lee (Writer, editor, and former president of Marvel Comics), and James Earl Jones (the original voice actor of Darth Vader).

5- Bazinga!

Bazinga, which eventually became one of the series' trademarks, comes from the term Zing, which indicates when someone ridicules or tricks another person. It was introduced shortly before it first appeared in an episode because the writer Stephen Engel frequently used it whenever he told a joke.

6- Lisa Simpson

In the fourteenth episode of the third season, Sheldon, inspired by Albert Einstein, decides to look for a regular job despite his high IQ.

When he arrives at the employment agency, he is assisted by a woman played by Yeardley Smith, who is known in the United States for voicing Lisa Simpson.

7- Harley Quinn Voice Actresses

Both actress Kaley Cuoco (Penny) and actress Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) have voiced the character Harley Quinn. Kaley starred in the DC animated series "Harley Quinn", while Rauch appeared in the movie "Batman and Harley Quinn".

8- Real Scientist!

Among all the actors, only actress Mayim Bialik is truly educated in a scientific field. In the series, she portrays Amy, a neurobiologist, while in reality, she is a neuroscientist.

As an extra curiosity, Mayim Bialik is publicly known to be a vegan, a feminist, and a founding member of a Jewish animal protection institution!

9- Blossom

Mayim Bialik was the lead actress in the 90s series Blossom, where she played a 15-year-old, highly intelligent and sarcastic teenager who lived with her father, Nick Russo (Ted Wass) and her siblings. She is the youngest in the Russo family and manages to shine in an unconventional family. In Blossom, she already acted alongside actor Johnny Galecki (Leonard).

10- Tribute to Carol Ann Susi

Carol Ann Susi was the actress who voiced Howard Wolowitz's mother (Simon Helberg), a character who was beloved and famous for never appearing on-screen but for her distinctive high-pitched screams. In 2014, after battling cancer for a long time, Carol passed away, and her character was also written out of the series.

Afterward, all the following episodes of the series featured a photo of the actress on Leonard and Sheldon's refrigerator as a tribute.

11- Leonard Could Have Been Sheldon!

When Johnny Galecki was invited to join the series, he was offered two roles: Sheldon or Leonard. In an interview with Variety magazine, he mentioned that he chose to be Leonard because he had never previously played a character with a romantic progression and had always been cast as the best friend type of character.

12- Poser!

In the series, Jim Parsons' character is an avid fan of the Star Trek and Doctor Who franchises, but unlike his character Sheldon Cooper, Jim has never watched all the episodes of these respective series.

13- USS Enterprise

A frequently appearing guest character on the show is Wil Wheaton, an actor who appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation as Wesley Crusher. When the character's house is visible on Big Bang, you can notice that the house number is 1701, the same registration number as the USS Enterprise: NCC-1701-D.

14- Martial Arts Master

In an interview on CONAN TBS, Simon Helberg revealed his journey in Karate. He started practicing it at the age of 5 and became a black belt at the age of 10.

In the interview, he mentioned how challenging it was to maintain order in the dojo as a small boy leading the class while the other students were older and taller.

15- Awards

During its 12-year run, the series received 96 award nominations, winning 34 of them. Some of these awards included Best Actor in a Comedy Series, Best Actor/Actress, and among them, Big Bang won several awards.

Many cast members received individual awards, with Jim Parsons being the standout, winning awards for Best Actor in a Comedy at events such as the Teen Choice Awards, Emmy Awards, and even the Golden Globe.
