Juno Temple is an English actor whose roles range from period dramas to crime stories and television comedy. Born in London in 1989, she is the daughter of film director Julien Temple and producer Amanda Pirie. Her early screen work included *Notes on a Scandal* (2006), in which she played Polly Hart, the daughter of Cate Blanchett’s character. The following year, she appeared as Lola Quincey in *Atonement*, the adaptation of Ian McEwan’s novel starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy. She also played Celia in the school comedy *St Trinian’s*.
Temple continued to move between independent films and larger productions. She played the title character, Danielle, in *Dirty Girl*, a coming-of-age film set in 1980s Oklahoma, and Dottie Smith in William Friedkin’s *Killer Joe*, opposite Matthew McConaughey. In Christopher Nolan’s *The Dark Knight Rises* (2012), she appeared as Jen, an associate of Selina Kyle. She portrayed the fairy Thistlewit in Disney’s *Maleficent* (2014) and returned for its 2019 sequel. Other film roles include Merrin Williams in *Horns* and McKenna in *Afternoon Delight*. In 2013, she received the BAFTA Rising Star Award, a prize voted for by the public.
Her television work brought her to new audiences. In HBO’s *Vinyl* (2016), a drama about the 1970s music business, she played Jamie Vine, an ambitious employee at a record label. She portrayed Veronica Newell in the first season of *Dirty John*, which dramatized the relationship between Debra Newell and John Meehan. In the Paramount+ miniseries *The Offer* (2022), about the making of *The Godfather*, she played Bettye McCartt, an assistant to producer Albert S. Ruddy.
Temple became particularly associated with Keeley Jones in Apple TV+’s *Ted Lasso*. Keeley begins the series as a model dating footballer Jamie Tartt and later builds a career in public relations while forming a close friendship with club owner Rebecca Welton. Temple received multiple Emmy nominations for her performance. She took on a markedly different television role in the fifth season of *Fargo*, playing Dot Lyon, a Minnesota wife and mother whose efforts to protect her family expose a concealed past. Jon Hamm played Roy Tillman, the sheriff pursuing her. The performance earned Temple an Emmy nomination for lead actress in a limited or anthology series. Across these projects, her work is identifiable through specific characters: a boarding-school pupil, a fairy, a publicist and a fugitive determined to defend her home.
