Pedro Pascal was born José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal on April 2, 1975, in Santiago, Chile. His family left Chile during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet and eventually settled in the United States. Pascal grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and Orange County, California, before studying acting at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He spent years working in theater and taking television parts before the roles that made him widely known.

One of those roles was Oberyn Martell in the fourth season of *Game of Thrones* in 2014. Oberyn arrives in King’s Landing seeking justice for his sister Elia’s murder, then volunteers to fight Gregor “the Mountain” Clegane in a trial by combat. Pascal’s performance gave the character a memorable mix of charm, anger, and confidence, even though Oberyn appeared in only one season. The following year, Pascal began playing Javier Peña in Netflix’s *Narcos*. His character, based on a real Drug Enforcement Administration agent, investigates Colombia’s drug cartels across the show’s first three seasons.

In 2019, Pascal took the title role in *The Mandalorian*, the first live-action *Star Wars* television series. He plays Din Djarin, a bounty hunter whose assignment to capture a child instead becomes a commitment to protect him. That child, Grogu, became central to the series. Because Din often wears a helmet, Pascal’s voice is a crucial part of the performance; other performers also contributed to the character’s physical portrayal. Pascal returned to the role in *The Book of Boba Fett*.

Pascal starred opposite Bella Ramsey in HBO’s *The Last of Us*, which premiered in 2023. He plays Joel, a survivor tasked with escorting Ramsey’s Ellie across a United States devastated by a fungal pandemic. The series adapts the video game developed by Naughty Dog. Pascal received an Emmy nomination for the role and won the Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series in 2024.

His film work ranges from the villain Maxwell Lord in *Wonder Woman 1984* to a fictionalized version of himself opposite Nicolas Cage in *The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent*. He played General Marcus Acacius in *Gladiator II* and voiced Fink the fox in the animated film *The Wild Robot*, both released in 2024. In 2025, he appeared as Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*. These parts followed a career built across stage, television, animation, and film rather than a single franchise.
