V, a member of BTS, revealed during a livestream on Wednesday that he is undergoing treatment for hearing loss in his right ear. According to the singer, hearing on that side currently functions at about one-third the level of his left ear.

The artist, whose birth name is Kim Tae-hyung, said he initially did not take the problem seriously enough and treated it as “a matter of mental strength.” He now takes medication and attends regular hospital appointments to manage the condition.

V said his hearing difficulties worsened during his military service. He began his mandatory service in 2023 and was discharged in June 2025. In South Korea, nearly all men deemed fit for service must complete 18 months; all seven BTS members began their enlistments in 2022.

The revelation came midway through the Arirang World Tour, which began in South Korea in April. The concert series brought all seven members of the group together for the first time in years, following their individual periods of military service. BTS recently wrapped up shows in Baltimore, United States, and still has dates scheduled in Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Bangkok, Sydney and Hong Kong.

Jungkook also took part in the livestream and spoke about a shin injury he has been managing throughout the tour. The singer said he was close to developing a stress fracture and would need to take careful care of the injury to continue performing.

In July, BTS announced that it would not submit music for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards after the Recording Academy announced the creation of the Best Asian Pop Music Performance category.
