Apocalypse Z: New World is now available on Prime Video. The sequel to the 2024 Spanish horror film expands the story based on Manel Loureiro’s novels, shifting its focus to a larger group of survivors and the dangers beyond their refuge.

In the first film, Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, Manel struggled through an outbreak that made every trip outside more dangerous. Protecting his cat added another concern to his search for food and safety. In the sequel, the TSJ virus outbreak has made the Canary Islands Europe’s last refuge.

Roberto joins a group on a mission to the mainland for vital supplies. They face threats beyond the infected, while his questionable motives complicate the operation.

An exclusive clip released by Collider shows how the prospect of contacting other people changes the mood among the survivors. Gathered around a computer, the armed group discovers a working connection to a chat network. The machine is old, but it works. They soon wonder whether a telephone exchange might still be operating.

When someone asks whether anyone from Madrid is online, Elias replies. Their hope is short-lived: Elias is a bot, and its last recorded response was two months earlier. The scene ends with a message on screen identified as Psalms 142:4, about finding no one to care for the speaker’s soul.

Carles Torrens returns as director, with a screenplay by Ángel Agudo. The cast includes Carlos Alcaide, Julia Martínez, Mónica López, Tamara Casellas, Santiago Vaca Narvaja, José María Yazpik and Berta Vázquez. Produced by Núria Valls and Adrián Guerra, the film arrived on streaming after screenings at Sitges and Screamfest LA.
