William Orbit, the music producer best known for his work on Madonna's Ray of Light, has died at the age of 69. His death was announced on Friday (7) in a statement posted on the artist's social media accounts by family and friends.

According to the statement, Orbit died on July 23, but no cause of death was disclosed. The message highlighted the impact he had on those close to him and his audience.

Orbit produced Ray of Light, which was released in 1998. The album is considered by many to be one of the best works in Madonna's discography and marked the beginning of a partnership that continued at other points in the singer's career.

After Ray of Light, William Orbit collaborated with Madonna again on 2000's Music and 2012's MDNA. His career also included work with Blur, All Saints and U2.
