The first reactions to Street Fighter have begun circulating following its Los Angeles premiere and a series of screenings this week. The new adaptation of the Capcom game opens in theaters on October 16, with full reviews due on October 14.Early reactions suggest the film is at its best when it leans into humor and over-the-top action. Some viewers called it a more successful follow-up to Mortal Kombat (1995) than that franchise's recent films, while also praising its ability to capture the energy of anime in live action.Among the cast, Noah Centineo, who plays Ken Masters, and Cody Rhodes, who plays Guile, drew some of the strongest praise. Andrew Koji also earned positive notices as Ryu, while Roman Reigns stood out as Akuma, particularly for his voice work. Andrew Schulz was also singled out as a highlight for his performance as Dan Hibiki. The direction by Kitao Sakurai, known for Beef and Bad Trip, was cited as another strength. Viewers described a visually striking film featuring 2D animation, a saturated color palette and entertaining fight sequences. The film was also seen as a tribute to 1980s action movies and 1990s aesthetics. Not all the reactions were positive, however. Some viewers criticized the dialogue, said the jokes did not always land and felt the story lost momentum at times. The fights also divided opinion: while some praised the explosive clashes, others felt they served as a distraction from an uneven script.Set in 1993, the story follows Ryu and Ken as Chun-Li recruits them for the upcoming World Warrior Tournament, a competition that conceals a dangerous conspiracy. Jason Momoa, David Dastmalchian, 50 Cent and Don Lee round out the cast.
