Sia has sold 50% of the rights to her music catalog to Pophouse, an entertainment and investment company. The deal was valued at around R$ 950 million, equivalent to US$ 180 million.

Of that total, R$ 871 million, or US$ 165 million, relates to songs the singer wrote before her marriage to Dan Bernad. The deal includes some of the biggest hits of Sia’s career, including “Chandelier”, “Titanium” and “Cheap Thrills”.

The couple’s divorce is also reflected in the division of the proceeds. According to court documents, Dan Bernad waived any claim to the R$ 871 million tied to the works created before the marriage in exchange for receiving R$ 5.3 million, equivalent to US$ 1 million, from Sia.

The remaining R$ 79 million, or US$ 15 million, is tied to songs created during the time the couple were together. Sia and Dan Bernad were married for less than three years.

The deal puts Sia alongside other pop stars who have sold the rights to their catalogs in recent years. In 2023, Justin Bieber sold his music rights for around R$ 1.05 billion, or US$ 200 million, to Hipgnosis Songs Capital. The deal covered more than 290 songs, including “Baby”, “Sorry” and “Love Yourself”.

Also in 2023, Katy Perry sold the rights to her five albums released between 2008 and 2020 for R$ 1.19 billion, equivalent to US$ 225 million, to Litmus Music. The deal included the singer’s share of the publishing rights and recording royalties for “Teenage Dream”, “PRISM”, “Witness” and “Smile”.
