Toei Animation announced two new One Piece films during the global One Piece Day 2026 event. The first, One Piece Film God Valley, is set for release in the Japanese summer of 2027, while One Piece Film BAAD is scheduled for 2029.

The announcement gives God Valley an unprecedented place in the franchise's history: it will be the first One Piece feature film to directly adapt a story from Eiichiro Oda's manga. Until now, the series' films have told original stories, even when drawing on characters and elements already familiar to audiences.

One Piece Film God Valley will bring the God Valley incident flashback, introduced during the Elbaph arc in the manga, to the big screen. As this section spans only a few chapters, the story can be told within the runtime of a single film.

The decision also raises questions for the television anime. The first phase of the Elbaph arc will conclude in the coming weeks, at the end of the summer 2026 schedule. The series will then take a break of several months before returning in 2027.

The anime has already confirmed it will air 26 episodes a year. This means the film could potentially adapt the God Valley incident in full while the episodes move forward with the main story. That strategy, however, has not yet been confirmed.

If the film premieres in the Japanese summer of 2027, when the anime is expected to cover this part of Elbaph, international viewers may face a gap in context if the film is not released outside Japan at the same time. So far, no international release dates or production-team details have been announced for either project.
