Akira will receive a special celebration in São Paulo for the 35th anniversary of its release in Brazilian theaters. Sato Company will hold early screenings of the 4K remastered version on August 9 at Sato Cinema, located in the Liberdade neighborhood.

The screenings will take place at two times during Sunday afternoon. Tickets are already available on Ingresso.com, and the event will be an opportunity for fans to gather and watch the classic more than two weeks before its official premiere, scheduled for August 27 in theaters across the country.

Originally released as an adaptation of the manga of the same name, Akira was directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, who also wrote the screenplay and created the work that originated the feature film. The movie is considered a watershed moment in the history of animation and played an important role in shaping the futuristic aesthetic of cyberpunk.

The production also helped consolidate Japanese pop culture in the West, influencing generations of filmmakers, animators, and visual artists in different parts of the world. The 4K remastered version will be shown before its nationwide release for those attending the special screenings.

The story takes place in Neo-Tokyo, a futuristic metropolis built three decades after the original capital was destroyed by an explosion of mysterious origin. The plot follows the young biker Kaneda, who becomes involved in a military conspiracy while trying to rescue his childhood friend, Tetsuo.

After suffering a motorcycle accident, Tetsuo awakens devastating psychic powers that become increasingly difficult to control. At the same time, the city faces social collapse, political tensions, and a government cover-up related to secret experiments involving paranormal children. In this setting, Tetsuo's transformation threatens the fate of the entire metropolis.
