Jane Levy

Jane Levy is an American actress known for playing resourceful, emotionally complicated characters across television, horror, comedy, and musical drama. She was born on December 29, 1989, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in San Anselmo, in Marin County. Before pursuing acting professionally, she attended Goucher College in Maryland, where she studied liberal arts and performed with the school’s theater program. She later moved to New York City and trained at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.

Levy made her television debut in 2011 as Mandy Milkovich on Showtime’s Shameless. Although her time on the series was brief, the role placed her in the Milkovich family’s turbulent storyline and gave her an early opportunity to work in a gritty ensemble drama. That same year, she became the lead of ABC’s Suburgatory, playing Tessa Altman, a sarcastic teenager whose father moves her from New York City to an affluent suburban community. The sitcom ran for three seasons, from 2011 through 2014, and established Levy as a leading television performer.

Her film breakthrough came with Fede Álvarez’s 2013 horror film Evil Dead, a contemporary reimagining of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult classic. Levy played Mia Allen, a young woman attempting to recover from drug addiction while facing demonic possession in an isolated cabin. The physically demanding performance required intense makeup effects and helped distinguish the film from a conventional remake. In 2016, she starred as Rocky in the home-invasion thriller Don’t Breathe, directed by Álvarez. Rocky is a struggling young mother who joins a burglary that turns into a desperate fight for survival.

Levy also appeared in the science-fiction adventure film Monster Trucks and played Jackie Torrance in the first season of Hulu’s Castle Rock, a series inspired by characters and settings associated with Stephen King’s fiction. Her best-known later role is Zoey Clarke in NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, which premiered in 2020. Zoey unexpectedly begins hearing other people’s inner feelings expressed through popular songs, creating a distinctive combination of workplace comedy, romance, family drama, and musical performance. Levy’s portrayal earned recognition for balancing the show’s whimsical premise with grief, anxiety, and complicated relationships. The series ran for two seasons and continued with the 2021 television film Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas. Throughout her career, Levy has moved between genres while retaining a sharply individual screen presence.
