Steven Spielberg is set to produce the feature film adaptation of The Mandela Catalogue, a horror saga that began as a series of viral YouTube shorts and has amassed millions of views. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on June 9, 2028.The original production launched in 2021 and is set in Mandela County, a fictional town in Wisconsin. The story follows a threat posed by the Alternates, immortal creatures capable of shapeshifting and manipulating their victims’ perception through audiovisual media, televisions, computers and GPS systems.The saga’s horror centers on a silent, psychological invasion, led by a false representation of the Archangel Gabriel. In the story, the Alternates seek to wipe out humanity by pushing their victims to the brink of mental collapse.Alex Kister, the creator of The Mandela Catalogue, will direct the feature. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Tyler Clifton, maintaining a direct link between the original internet work and its theatrical version.Spielberg will produce the film through Amblin Entertainment alongside Holly Bario. The production team also includes Aaron B. Koontz, Nick Nesbitt, Annie McCreery and Maria Fortese.Amazon MGM Studios is behind the project, which brings another story born in the digital space to the big screen. Further details on the cast, the start of production and other aspects of the adaptation have yet to be announced.
