Joe Manganiello has revealed new details about the Batman film Ben Affleck once developed but never brought to theaters. The actor, who was set to reprise his role as the villain Deathstroke, shared the plans in his new memoir, “Bloodlines.”

Affleck was attached to the project as writer, director, producer and star. According to Manganiello, the idea was to create a superhero version of David Fincher’s “The Game,” with Deathstroke devoted to destroying Batman’s life after believing the hero had killed his son.

The revenge plot would have included the murder of Commissioner Gordon, the kidnapping of Alfred Pennyworth and an invasion of the Batcave. The story would also have featured a fight in which Deathstroke nearly killed Batman and Batgirl. The two would have escaped on an elevated train.

The film would have ended with a one-on-one confrontation between Batman and Deathstroke in the streets of Gotham. Manganiello wrote that he was excited by the proposal and told Affleck he was eager to see his take on a Batman film, particularly after praising works such as “The Town.”

The actor also said that Affleck’s many roles on the project seemed like “a lot” for one person. The director reportedly replied that the film was in good hands.

The film was never released. Recently, Affleck described the reshoots for “Justice League” as the lowest point of his career, citing conflicts between the studio and the filmmaker, as well as the personal circumstances and tragedy that occurred during that period. He also said he was pleased with the release of Zack Snyder’s version, known as the Snyder Cut.
