Johnny Depp is open to playing Jack Sparrow again in Pirates of the Caribbean. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor said he would consider returning to the franchise if the project could give the films a better ending.

“If everything is exactly where it needs to be in terms of how they’re going to conclude the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise... the only involvement I really want is to help bring it to a better close.”

- Johnny Depp

Depp is also willing to work with Jerry Bruckheimer again. He said he would take on a project with the producer “tomorrow,” regardless of what it was, citing their friendship as the reason for his trust. That does not confirm his return: Depp described the circumstances under which he would want to be involved, not a deal that has been made.

Bruckheimer, meanwhile, said at D23 that he has been talking with Depp about Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and that a script is in development. In comments to Deadline, the producer said he hopes the project moves forward. Depp’s involvement has not been announced.

Depp first played Captain Jack Sparrow in 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. He returned for 2006’s Dead Man’s Chest and 2007’s In the End of the World. He later played the character in 2011’s On Stranger Tides and 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales, his most recent film as Sparrow.

More than one project tied to the franchise is in development. In 2024, Bruckheimer said Jeff Nathanson was writing a reboot script, while Christina Hodson was working on a film centered on Robbie. It remains unclear which of those projects, if either, could bring Depp back as Jack Sparrow.
