The third season of The Last of Us promises an important shift in perspective. Set to arrive on HBO and HBO Max in 2027, the production is expected to temporarily place Ellie in the background to follow Abby's journey more closely, a character portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever.The turn had already been signaled at the end of the second season. After the confrontation at the theater, the narrative went back three days and showed Abby waking up at the Washington Liberation Front base, making room for the other side of the events in Seattle.For those familiar with The Last of Us Part II, the change in protagonist also transforms the kind of story that will be explored. While Ellie spends much of her journey pursuing Abby, the character directly experiences the effects of the war between the W.L.F. and the Seraphites.Abby begins this stage as one of Isaac's main soldiers, played by Jeffrey Wright. However, her relationship with the group changes after she meets Yara and Lev, two young Seraphites who begin accompanying her.The Seattle conflict is expected to receive much more attention in the upcoming episodes. Abby's storyline includes military operations, large-scale confrontations, and a closer look at both sides involved in the war, which appeared more as a backdrop in the previous season.The shift in focus should not mean abandoning the elements that defined the series. Drama, horror, and infected remain present, but the new perspective is likely to give the season an atmosphere closer to a war production, without setting aside the consequences of the cycle of violence started by Joel.Craig Mazin has already confirmed that Abby will play a central role in the continuation. Kaitlyn Dever has also indicated that her participation will be much greater than in the previous season.
