Rupert Grint will return as Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, this time on Broadway. The actor will appear in a limited 17-week run at the Lyric Theatre in New York from February 2 to May 30, 2027.

This will be Grint’s first return to the character since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, released in 2011. The actor played Ron in all eight films in the franchise based on J.K. Rowling’s books.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set 19 years after the events of the original saga. The play follows Harry, Ron and the other characters as adults, now with families of their own. Grint will therefore play an older version of Ron, who has also become a father.

Commenting on the announcement, the actor recalled that Ron has been part of his life since he was 11. Grint also said he was excited to reunite with the character at a new stage in his life, highlighting the coincidence that he will be playing Ron as he enters fatherhood at the same time that he himself became a father.

The return comes after Tom Felton reprised his role as Draco Malfoy in the same production. The two actors will not share the stage during this run, however, as Felton’s performances end on January 3, 2027.

Advance ticket sales for performances featuring Rupert Grint begin on September 1. The actor’s run at the Lyric Theatre ends on May 30, 2027.
