Mason Thames has already seen footage from How to Train Your Dragon 2 and revealed that the live-action sequel will be bigger in scope and feature a more mature story. The actor, who plays Hiccup, has received images and videos from post-production, although he has not yet seen the finished film.

Among the footage Thames has seen are moments featuring Hiccup alongside Toothless. The scenes will still undergo extensive visual-effects work, which will be especially important given the number of dragons and digitally created environments featured in the production.

The actor said he was very proud of the new film. According to Thames, the team wants to take what was achieved in the first live-action film to another level, particularly by expanding the world and further developing the story.

The direction described by the actor mirrors the path taken by the original animated How to Train Your Dragon 2. In the animated film, the story moved several years forward in Hiccup's life and considerably increased the scale of the adventure.
