Marvel will launch its new official comics app on November 16, created in partnership with WEBTOON. The platform will become the digital home of more than 35,000 stories from the publisher, as well as works based on properties from 20th Century Studios, Star Wars and, in the future, Walt Disney Pictures.Available on mobile devices and computers, the Marvel Comics app will let users choose between the traditional page-by-page format and vertical scrolling, a feature closely associated with the WEBTOON experience. The partnership also covers the platform’s development and operation. The app will include tools to make discovering titles easier. An interface with scrolling covers will let readers browse hundreds of comics, while dedicated pages for characters and creators will help them keep up with new releases. Readers will be able to browse both archived stories and new releases, and add upcoming titles to their own Pull List before publication. The subscription service will be split between base and ultimate plans. Both will provide full access to Marvel’s catalog, but the waiting period for the latest issues will differ. Base-plan users will have to wait three months after the comics arrive in stores, while ultimate subscribers will gain access after one month. The launch expands the collaboration between Marvel Comics and WEBTOON, which has already brought titles such as Amazing Spider-Man (2022), Avengers (2012) and Alien: Bloodlines to the webcomics platform in episodic formats. The partnership will also be presented at New York Comic Con, which runs from October 8 to 11. On October 9, the That Time Deadpool Fell into a WEBTOON panel will feature a preview of one of the first two stories developed jointly by the companies, scheduled for release the following year.
