Marvel has officially confirmed a third season of X-Men ’97, set to premiere on Disney+ in 2027. Production is already underway, although no specific release date has been announced.

The confirmation came from Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of television and streaming. According to the executive, the plan is to maintain an annual release schedule for the animated series. Under that plan, a fourth season has also been confirmed and is expected to premiere in 2028.

The gap between the first and second seasons was caused by production issues. According to the producers, that situation is not expected to happen again, supporting hopes that the upcoming episodes will follow the studio’s planned schedule.

The third season is expected to continue the story left unresolved at the end of the second season. In the final scene, Mystique assumes Val Cooper’s identity after killing her, paving the way for a conspiracy involving X-Factor and the new United States government.

Apocalypse’s future also remains uncertain. Although he was imprisoned after the events of the final episode, the character is still alive and could influence the conflicts to come. Cable’s relationship with the X-Men is also expected to receive more attention, as are the consequences of Nightcrawler’s sacrifice to save Rogue.

The second season ended with new enemies, key characters and different paths opening up for the team. The animated series also remains one of Marvel’s most acclaimed productions in recent years, further increasing audience interest in the episodes ahead.

With the third season in production and its premiere set for 2027, X-Men ’97 already has two more years mapped out by Marvel: the third season in 2027 and the fourth in 2028.
