Kiefer Sutherland has confirmed that he is involved in Young Guns 3 and has approved the script for the new film in the franchise. During a Young Guns panel at FanX Salt Lake, the actor reunited with Lou Diamond Phillips and said he had already spoken with Emilio Estevez about the project.Sutherland’s return to the franchise is still up in the air. In Young Guns II, his character, Doc Scurlock, died in a fight, but Estevez refused to let the cowboy’s story end. “Nobody saw you die. Maybe they didn’t manage to kill you. But this conversation ends here.” [Kiefer Sutherland] The actor is [unintelligible] and out of the series, and is [unintelligible] to work alongside Lou Diamond Phillips, Emilio Estevez and a new cast.Sutherland also said the film is in development under the title Young Guns 3: Dead or Alive. Emilio Estevez is writing and directing the film, and will reprise his role as Billy the Kid. John Fusco, who wrote the first film, is also involved in the project.Asked whether filming could begin soon, Phillips explained that Estevez is working to move the project forward. He also [unintelligible] Christian Slater as a possible return: the actor, who played Arkansas Dave Rudabaugh in Young Guns II, is expected to rejoin the cast.The first Young Guns was released in 1988, with Sutherland, Phillips and Estevez [unintelligible] alongside Charlie Sheen, Dermot Mulroney and Casey Siemaszko. The sequel arrived in 1990. Young Guns 3 does not yet have an official release date.
