Roh Jeong-eui

Roh Jeong-eui, also rendered Roh Jeong-ui, is a South Korean actress born July 31, 2001, in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. She began acting as a child in Jeon Man-bae’s 2011 film I Am a Dad. Her subsequent early screen work included the television dramas Dream High 2, The Great Doctor, Pinocchio, and The Witch’s Diner, as well as the films Phantom Detective: Secret of the Living Dead and The Day I Died: Unclosed Case. These credits document a transition from child roles to adolescent characters before she gained far wider recognition in youth and romance dramas during her teenage years.

In 2020, Roh played Hong Shi-a in JTBC’s 18 Again, a South Korean adaptation of the 2009 American film 17 Again. Shi-a is the daughter of Jung Da-jung and Hong Dae-young, whose father returns physically to his teenage body while retaining his adult memories. Roh’s character navigates school pressures and a troubled relationship with her parents. The series stars Kim Ha-neul, Yoon Sang-hyun, and Lee Do-hyun; Lee plays the rejuvenated version of Dae-young. For her performance, Roh received the Best New Actress award at the 2020 Asia Artist Awards. It became a significant turning point in her early television career.

Roh next attracted international attention as NJ, a celebrated idol drawn to artist Choi Ung, in SBS’s 2021–2022 series Our Beloved Summer. The romantic comedy reunites documentary subjects Ung and Kook Yeon-su, former lovers whose high-school filming becomes newly relevant years later. NJ initially asks Ung to collaborate on a drawing project and develops feelings for him, creating an emotional complication around the central pair. Kim Da-mi plays Yeon-su, while Choi Woo-shik plays Ung. Roh also performed “A Day of Fall,” an original soundtrack song for the drama. Her work as NJ contrasted a polished public image with the character’s loneliness.

In 2024, Roh led Netflix’s teen mystery series Hierarchy as Jung Jae-i, the influential student at the elite Jooshin High School. The drama follows Kang Ha, a scholarship transfer student portrayed by Lee Chae-min, after he enters a school dominated by children of wealthy families. Jae-i is positioned near the center of its hierarchy and becomes connected to Kang Ha’s investigation into the death of his brother. The six-episode series was released on Netflix on June 7, 2024. It marked Roh’s first leading role in a Netflix original series, extending her work from broadcast television into a globally distributed Korean drama.
