Edit reference

Greta Lee is an American actress whose work has moved between television, independent film, animation, and major studio productions. Born on March 7, 1983, in Los Angeles to Korean immigrant parents, she studied communication at Northwestern University before pursuing acting in New York. Her early career included stage work and guest appearances on television, where she often played sharply observed, memorable supporting characters rather than conventional romantic leads. Lee appeared in episodes of “Law & Order,” “The Good Wife,” “New Girl,” and “Girls.” She also played Homeless Heidi in the second season of “High Maintenance” and had a recurring role as Hae-Won in “Girls.” In 2014, she joined the cast of “The Mindy Project” as Lauren, a recurring character whose relationship with Mindy Lahiri challenged the show’s central romantic dynamics. Her television credits later included “Wayward Pines” and “Russian Doll,” the Netflix series created by Natasha Lyonne, Leslye Headland, and Amy Poehler. Lee’s role as Stella Bak in Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” gave her a larger dramatic platform. Stella is a young media executive who becomes the president of the fictional UBA network while confronting questions about corporate power, generational conflict, and the treatment of women in the workplace. Lee joined the series in its second season and remained part of its continuing ensemble. She has also voiced Lyla, the stylish artificial-intelligence assistant belonging to Miguel O’Hara, in the animated “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” The role demonstrates her ability to create a distinct character through timing and vocal performance alone. Lee’s most acclaimed film performance came in Celine Song’s 2023 drama “Past Lives.” She plays Nora Moon, a Korean-born writer living in New York who reconnects with Hae Sung, a childhood friend from Seoul, after many years apart. The film follows their meetings across decades while examining migration, marriage, language, memory, and the Korean concept of “in-yun,” or connections formed across lives. Lee’s restrained performance earned her nominations for the Golden Globe, Critics Choice Award, and Gotham Award for Best Lead Performance, among other honors. In “Problemista,” written and directed by Julio Torres, Lee plays Elizabeth, an eccentric art curator whose demands entangle the aspiring toy designer Alejandro. Her filmography shows a consistent interest in characters who are ambitious, guarded, funny, and difficult to reduce to a single type. Through Nora, Stella, Elizabeth, and her voice work as Lyla, Lee has built a career defined by precision, emotional control, and unusual range.
