Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers is a Japanese television anime adaptation of Ken Wakui's manga, first serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2017. The story follows Takemichi Hanagaki, a 26-year-old part-time worker whose life changes after he learns that Hinata Tachibana, his middle-school girlfriend, has died in a conflict involving the Tokyo Manji Gang. After being pushed onto railway tracks, he unexpectedly travels twelve years into the past. Takemichi discovers that shaking hands with Hinata's younger brother, Naoto Tachibana, lets him move between 2005 and the present. Naoto becomes a police detective and helps him investigate the gang's future consequences and potentially make survival possible. The central mission is not merely to prevent one death. Takemichi repeatedly returns to 2005, joins the Tokyo Manji Gang, and tries to alter the decisions that will turn its members into criminals. He becomes close to Manjiro “Mikey” Sano, the gang's charismatic leader, and Ken “Draken” Ryuguji, Mikey's vice-leader. The early storyline centers on the gang's struggle with Moebius and on Draken's near-fatal stabbing. Later arcs introduce Valhalla, Black Dragon, Tenjiku, and rival figures including Tetta Kisaki, whose schemes shape several tragedies. The anime presents these conflicts through delinquent gangs, friendship, loyalty, and increasingly difficult questions about their causes. Liden Films produced the first television season, which aired from April through September 2021. Koichi Hatsumi directed that season, while Yasuyuki Muto handled series composition and Hiroaki Tsutsumi composed the music. The adaptation was broadcast in Japan on MBS and other channels. Its opening theme was “Cry Baby” by Official HIGE DANdism, and its first ending theme was “Koko de Iki o Shite” by eill. The series became especially visible internationally because streaming brought its time-travel story to viewers outside Japan. The first season adapts material through the manga's Valhalla conflict, including the event known as Bloody Halloween. Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown, the second television season, aired from January to April 2023. It adapts the manga's Christmas Showdown arc, in which Takemichi confronts the Black Dragon gang and its leader Taiju Shiba while attempting to protect Hakkai Shiba and preserve the future. Tokyo Revengers: Tenjiku Arc followed from October through December 2023, adapting the conflict with the Yokohama-based Tenjiku gang. Liden Films returned to animate both sequel seasons. The manga concluded in November 2022, with its final chapter published in Weekly Shonen Magazine. A live-action Japanese film adaptation opened in 2021, and a two-part sequel, Blood Halloween, arrived.
