Shaman of Forgotten Ways, Creature — human shaman, designed by Tyler Jacobson first released in Mar, 2015 in the set Dragons of Tarkir.
A deck focused on creature spells and ramping into powerful creatures would benefit from Shaman of Forgotten Ways, especially in a green-heavy deck with high-power creatures to enable its formidable ability. While Shaman of Forgotten Ways can be a strong mana accelerator and life total manipulator, there are potentially better options like Birds of Paradise or Noble Hierarch for mana ramp, and Craterhoof Behemoth for a game-ending creature finisher. Whether Shaman of Forgotten Ways should see play depends on the specific strategy and synergy of the deck, but it could be a solid inclusion in the right build.

Count the number of creatures each player controls when the last ability resolves to determine what number each player’s life total will become.
02/25/15
If a player controls no creatures as the last ability resolves, their life total will become 0, causing that player to lose the game. If all players’ life totals become 0 this way, the game will be a draw.

Some formidable abilities are activated abilities that require creatures you control to have total power 8 or greater. Once you activate these abilities, it doesn’t matter what happens to the total power of creatures you control.

The first ability of Shaman of Forgotten Ways is a mana ability. It doesn’t use the stack and can’t be responded to.
