Last Breath, Instant, designed by DiTerlizzi first released in Oct, 1999 in the set Mercadian Masques and was printed exactly in 5 different ways. It see play in 2 formats: Pauper and Commander.
This card, Last Breath, would be beneficial in a White control deck that focuses on removing smaller threats and gaining life to prolong the game. While it provides a decent removal option and life gain, there are more versatile cards like Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares that are considered better due to their ability to exile any target creature regardless of power. Last Breath could see play in limited formats or casual decks, but in competitive environments, more efficient removal options may be preferred.

If the creature is an illegal target when Last Breath tries to resolve, it won’t resolve and none of its effects will happen. Its controller won’t gain 4 life.
