About Gaze of Pain

Gaze of Pain, Sorcery, designed by Anson Maddocks first released in Jun, 1995 in the set Ice Age.

A deck that focuses on aggressive creature strategies, such as a Black aggro or midrange deck, would benefit from using Gaze of Pain as it provides a way to remove opposing creatures without risking losing their own in combat. However, there are better options available, such as removal spells like Fatal Push or Murder, which offer more consistent and versatile removal options. Gaze of Pain may not see much play in competitive decks due to its situational nature and limited effectiveness compared to other removal options.

Rules

04/15/13

An ability that triggers when something “attacks and isn’t blocked” triggers in the declare blockers step after blockers are declared if (1) that creature is attacking and (2) no creatures are declared to block it. It will trigger even if that creature was put onto the battlefield attacking rather than having been declared as an attacker in the declare attackers step.
