Pavi

Pavi Largo is a principal character in the 2008 film Repo! The Genetic Opera, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and adapted from the stage musical created by Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich. He is portrayed by Nivek Ogre, the musician best known for the industrial band Skinny Puppy. Pavi is one of the three children of Rotti Largo, the powerful president of GeneCo, a corporation that finances and repossesses life-saving organ transplants in the film’s dystopian future.

Pavi’s siblings are Luigi Largo and Amber Sweet. Like them, he expects to inherit GeneCo when their terminally ill father dies. Rotti, however, considers all three children unworthy successors. Pavi is depicted as vain, cruel, and grotesquely fascinated by physical appearance. His most memorable trait is his collection of surgically removed human faces, which he wears as masks. This obsession is emphasized in “Mark It Up,” a musical number in which he celebrates the business of organ repossession alongside Rotti, Luigi, and Amber.

GeneCo operates in a world devastated by an epidemic of organ failure. Patients can purchase artificial organs through payment plans, but if they miss payments, GeneCo’s Repo Men reclaim the organs, usually killing the debtor in the process. Pavi benefits from this system as a member of the Largo family, even though he is not shown as an organ repossessor himself. His position is that of an entitled heir living off the corporation’s influence and wealth.

Throughout the story, Pavi competes with Luigi and Amber for Rotti’s approval. The siblings’ rivalry becomes especially important after Rotti announces that he is dying and seeks a successor. Rather than giving GeneCo to any of his children, Rotti plans to leave the company to Shilo Wallace, the teenage daughter of Nathan Wallace, GeneCo’s former top Repo Man. Shilo is later revealed to be Rotti’s biological daughter, making her a direct threat to Pavi’s expected inheritance.

Pavi appears prominently during the Genetic Opera, a public event staged by GeneCo. There, Rotti tries to persuade Shilo to accept his legacy. The Largo children are furious when they learn that their father intends to deny them control of the company. Their greed and resentment culminate in violence after Rotti is fatally shot by Nathan Wallace.

By the film’s conclusion, Pavi and Luigi pursue Shilo as she attempts to escape the opera house. Their pursuit ends when a chandelier falls during the chaos, killing them. Pavi’s death closes his role as one of the film’s most visually bizarre and morally corrupt members of the Largo family.
