About Torment of Venom

Torment of Venom, Instant, designed by Johann Bodin first released in Jul, 2017 in the set Hour of Devastation and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.

A deck focusing on controlling the board and disrupting the opponent's strategy would benefit from including Torment of Venom, as it provides versatile removal and can pressure the opponent's life total. While Torment of Venom is a solid choice for its flexibility, some may argue that cards like Fatal Push or Dismember offer more efficient removal options in certain situations. However, Torment of Venom's ability to potentially force the opponent to sacrifice a nonland permanent or discard a card adds an extra layer of decision-making, making it a viable option for decks looking to disrupt their opponent's game plan.

Rules

07/14/17

If the target creature is an illegal target by the time Torment of Venom resolves, the entire spell doesn’t resolve. The creature’s controller won’t be tormented.

07/14/17

While resolving Torment of Venom, the creature’s controller chooses a card to be discarded without revealing it, chooses a nonland permanent to be sacrificed, or chooses to do neither. Then that player discards that card, sacrifices that permanent, or loses 3 life. That player can always choose to lose 3 life, even if they have cards to discard or nonland permanents to sacrifice.
