This card can be useful in a control or tempo deck that seeks to diminish the power of opposing creatures while maintaining board presence. However, there are stronger options available such as Sojourner's Staff which not only provides the debuff effect but also has additional utility, making it more versatile and likely a better choice for competitive play. Overall, Staff of Zegon could see niche play in certain scenarios but may not be a top pick for most decks.
