This card could be beneficial in a control deck looking to have a repeatable source of damage or to pick off smaller creatures. However, there are better options available like Snapcaster Mage or Vendilion Clique that offer more versatility and impact on the game. Capricious Sorcerer may struggle to find a place in competitive play due to its limited effect and high cost to activate.

If a turn has multiple combat phases, the ability can only be activated before the beginning of the declare attackers step of the first combat phase in that turn.
