Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for A Ilha Esquecida, an animated film about two best friends who embark on an adventure across the fantastical island of Nakali. The film hits theaters nationwide on September 24.Jô and Raissa have been friends since childhood, but they are about to go their separate ways after graduating from high school. During the last night they spend together, the pair discovers a mysterious portal and is transported to an island filled with magical and mythological creatures drawn from the stories of Filipino families.The trailer introduces Nakali and the beings who cross the protagonists' path. Some creatures approach the pair as allies, while others take on the role of enemies. Among Jô and Raissa's companions is Raww, a well-meaning but clumsy werewolf dog.The island's greatest threat is the Manananggal, described as the most feared creature in the region. To get back home, the friends must face a dilemma: the price of the journey back may be losing all the memories of the friendship they have built since childhood.Jô and Raissa are therefore in a race against time to find a way out before they stop recognizing each other. The adventure puts their friendship at the heart of the conflict.The animated film features the voices of H.E.R., Liza Soberano, Lea Salonga, Dave Franco, Manny Jacinto and Jenny Slate. Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado directed and wrote the screenplay, while Crawford also serves as a producer alongside Mark Swift.
