Sony Pictures has cast the leads for Skating on Love, the film adaptation of Lynn Painter’s young adult novel. Amélie Hoeferle and Graham Campbell will play the story’s protagonists, two childhood friends who reunite in a small town obsessed with hockey.Josh Boone, director of The Fault in Our Stars and The New Mutants, will helm the film. Morgan Lehmann and Victoria Bata wrote the first draft of the screenplay, which was later revised by Boone and Knate Lee, the filmmaker’s writing partner.In the story, the reunion is clouded by old wounds that make it difficult for the characters to grow close again. That changes when the two decide to pretend they have rekindled their romantic relationship. What begins as a convenient arrangement starts to awaken feelings they had kept hidden and could give them a second chance.Released in September 2025, Lynn Painter’s book has already sold nearly 500,000 copies. It also appeared 48 times on The New York Times’ young adult bestseller list, reaching No. 1 for 15 weeks. The novel has been translated into 16 languages.Painter won the 2025 Goodreads Choice Award for young adult fiction and will serve as an executive producer on the film. Will Gluck and Jacqueline Monetta will produce, while Madison Jones will serve as an executive producer for Olive Bridge Entertainment.With the main cast and creative team in place, Skating on Love is scheduled for release in summer 2027.
