Paramount+ has released the first images of Minnie Driver as Sylvia “Vox” Voxley in The Day, an eight-episode British series about a bank robbery that turns into a hostage situation. Driver plays a negotiator racing against time as she tries to save the people trapped inside.

The story begins when police encounter the criminals during the robbery. The group barricades itself inside the bank, triggering a siege that puts Voxley up against an increasingly difficult crisis to control.

The Day is based on the Belgian series De Dag, released in 2018. The cast also includes Luca Pasqualino and Louisa Harland. The story begins from the police’s perspective, then returns to the start of the events to follow the robbers and hostages inside the bank.

Each episode shifts the point of view and reshapes the audience’s understanding of what happened. The structure carries the story through to the finale, when the full picture of the events inside the bank is revealed.

Developed and coproduced by Dynamic Television and Clapperboard Studios, the series was written by Ben Harris and Jesse O’Mahoney. Jonas Geirnaert and Julie Mahieu, who created the original Belgian production, are also involved in the project.

Andy Tohill and Ryan Tohill are sharing directing duties. Mike Benson, Andy Morgan, Daniel March and Tamryn Reinecke serve as executive producers, while Jake Rollins is the producer.

The Day was commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell, Paramount+’s head of scripted content and deputy chief content officer in the United Kingdom, and Paul Testar, Paramount+’s commissioning editor for the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The series will premiere on Paramount+ in all territories where the service operates, except Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
