About Soulflayer

Soulflayer, Creature — demon, designed by Seb McKinnon first released in Jan, 2015 in the set Fate Reforged Promos and was printed exactly in 5 different ways.

A deck that focuses on filling the graveyard with various creature types, especially those with strong abilities like flying, first strike, deathtouch, or lifelink, would benefit from including Soulflayer. However, the card's effectiveness may vary depending on the specific synergy and strategy of the deck. While there may be better cards for certain deck archetypes, Soulflayer could potentially see play in decks that can consistently utilize its delve ability to maximize its potential.

Rules

03/19/21

You can exile cards to pay only for generic mana, and you can’t exile more cards than the generic mana requirement of a spell with delve. For example, you can’t exile more than seven cards from your graveyard to cast Treasure Cruise unless an effect has increased its cost.

01/24/20

If one of those creature cards has one or more variants of the listed keywords (for example, hexproof from white), this creature gains those specific variants.

11/24/14

Because delve isn’t an alternative cost, it can be used in conjunction with alternative costs.

11/24/14

Creature cards that have abilities that grant the listed keyword abilities to themselves won’t count. For example, exiling a Battle Brawler (a creature with “As long as you control a red or white permanent, Battle Brawler gets +1/+0 and has first strike”) with Soulflayer’s delve ability won’t cause Soulflayer to have first strike, even if you control a red or white permanent.

11/24/14

You can’t exile cards to pay for the colored mana requirements of a spell with delve.

11/24/14

You exile cards from your graveyard at the same time you pay the spell’s cost. Exiling a card this way is simply another way to pay that cost.
